Merry Christmas!

Did everyone have themselves a Merry Little Christmas?

The dogs and I sure did, we had a nice quiet day together. We woke up this morning and they tore into their stockings full of dog treats and toys with the usual fervor. The house was full of squeaks and barks and happiness all around.

It would have been nice to have a white Christmas like friends of mine in Oklahoma and Texas are having today. I was surprised to see all of their pictures of snow on Facebook today. I can’t wait until we get a good snow here, I have an itch to get out and make a snow man!

Tick Season Has Started

My girlfriend called to tell me that she pulled two ticks off her son this morning and that she is worried about him getting Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever because the area where the ticks were attached is swollen and red. I told her to get that boy to the doctor so they can test it and put him on antibiotics!

That made me worry about my dogs getting ticks. It seems like this is awfully early in the season to be dealing with ticks already. But I checked each dog, head to toe, and didn’t find any ticks yet. That’s a good reminder for me to get down to the vet and buy some flea and tea prevention drops. I hope the vet gives me a good discount for buying that in quantity or I might have to shop for it online this year.

New Fish

This past year I have been learning about having an aquarium and taking care of fish – mostly goldfish. I had two goldfish in a small bowl for almost a year and they were doing great. So I decided to get them a bigger “house” and bought a 10 gallon aquarium.

I moved those two goldfish into the new aquarium and bought two more. They seemed to do well for two or three months, except I was having trouble keeping the water clean and clear.

The pet store told me I should buy an algae eater fish and let the fish clean the aquarium glass and the decor. So I did that and he is busy scraping algae off the glass and the large fake driftwood and plastic plants. So far, so good!

Do Dogs Miss You?

When I get home every night, my dogs are jumping up and down and are always glad to see me. But I wonder if they get lonely during the day when I am not there? Or do they just accept the way its just them for 6 or 7 hours? I bet some dogs do get lonely. I think they have a sense of what time you are supposed to get home and they get worried if you aren’t there as expected.
